AAF Import for Adobe Premiere Pro

Import AAF sequences exported from Avid Media Composer

The Advanced Authoring Format (AAF) Import for Adobe® Premiere® Pro Preview, comprised of the AAF and FCPXProjectConverter modules, provides improved AAF import capabilities for Premiere Pro CS6.0.1. This preview release allows Premiere Pro users to import AAF sequences exported from Avid Media Composer that reference AMA and some Avid MXF media.

The current release is for Mac users only and requires Premiere Pro CS6.0.1 running on OS X 10.6.8, 10.7.* (Lion) or later.


Getting Started

Follow these steps to get started with AAF Import for Adobe Premiere Pro:

  1. Make sure you have Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 installed
  2. Make sure you have installed the latest updates for your version of Adobe software by (a) launching any of the applications and going to the Help menu and selecting "Updates" or (b) manually downloading updates for the appropriate product.
  3. Download the AAF Import Utility for Adobe Premiere Pro
  4. Follow the AAF Import Utility for Adobe Premiere Pro installation instructions
  5. After installation is complete, launch Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and import AAF media.

What does the AAF Import for Adobe Premiere Pro Preview provide?
The AAF Import preview release updates AAF Import functionality in Premiere Pro CS6.0.1 to support AAF sequences exported from Avid Media Composer, which reference AMA and some Avid MXF media.
Can I use the AAF Import Preview with earlier versions Adobe Premiere Pro?
No. The plug-ins were developed for their specific versions of the software. The CS6.0.1 plug-in will not work with CS6 or below.
Do I need to be running on a 64-Bit operating system?
Yes. Adobe Premiere Pro CS6.0.1 has been written to support only the 64-Bit architecture on Windows and OSX.

Release Notes

The AAF Import for Adobe Premiere Pro includes prerelease software and is designed for evaluation purposes only. The technology is not final but many portions of the technology are fully implemented and ready for you to try and discuss.

Known Issues

  • AAF files with embedded audio/video data not supported.
  • Speed effects translate to the currently unsupported Time Remap effect.
  • Single frame dissolves are discarded.
  • Dissolves of the same duration as their associated clip are discarded.
  • Freezeframe is not current supported.
  • 3D Warp, 3D PIP effects not yet supported
  • Import of rendered effects not supported
  • Localization not yet implemented.
  • Progress bar feedback is not working.
  • AAF translation exceptions not yet implemented.
  • Flip/Flop effects not yet supported.
  • Strobe effects not yet supported.
  • Titles (both TitleTool and Marquee) import text only at this time.
  • Audio channel index can be incorrect for AMA media.
