What is SAP NetWeaver Gateway?

SAP NetWeaver Gateway is a new SAP product offering that will make it easier for developers to consume data and services from core SAP software implementations. Gateway provides a set of APIs that enables many technologies to gain access to SAP, including Flex, Silverlight, .NET, Sharepoint, and Java applications. Gateway leverages the Open Data Protocol (OData), an emerging industry standard for sharing data. Check out the SAP NetWeaver Gateway demo system.

Gateway provides a service catalogue which describes what are essentially RESTful services (Entity Sets/Collections such as Person, Account, etc), accompanying relationships (associations) and operations (CRUD). Gateway therefore enables you to build and publish Consumption Models (sub-sets of SAP data) which are logical groups of related entities (tables/views) specific to a use case (application).

What is Flash Builder?

Flash Builder 4.5 is an Eclipse™ based development tool for rapidly building expressive mobile, web, and desktop applications using ActionScript and the open source Flex framework and includes new support for developing, testing and deploying mobile applications on Android, BlackBerry Tablet OS and iOS platforms. Applications built with Flash Builder 4.5 provide an intuitive, expressive user experience on mobile, web and desktop devices, and allow developers to share a common codebase to build applications that run across platforms and devices.

What new capabilities are provided by the Flash Builder Plug-in for SAP NetWeaver?

The new plug-in provides an SAP NetWeaver Gateway Service connection wizard that can browse and introspect Gateway services and generate ActionScript service wrapper and value object classes. The service wrapper and classes can be used in an application to access the exposed service operations and data.
