With the Preview Release of the Flash Lite 2 Update for Flash Professional 8, developers can now build content for devices that support Flash Lite 2, and draw on the new features available in the latest mobile player including XML support to handle data more efficiently, device video, and ActionScript 2.0.
Flash Lite 2 includes the following:
- Flash Player 7 support
- ActionScript 2.0 support
- Loading and parsing of XML data
- Ability to store and retrieve persistent data
- Dynamic loading of multimedia content and playback using device-based codecs
- Improved display and handling of fonts
- Shape drawing and animation through ActionScript
Note: This is an early version, not a final release. We wanted to get this offering to you as soon as possible so you could start experimenting with Flash Lite 2 content.

If you would like to test your Flash content on a mobile phone, you can download the Flash Lite Player 2 from the Macromedia Online Store.

- For existing or new mobile content, simply open the publish settings dialog and select Flash Lite 2 as the publish version. Press ok, then Test Movie. Open the Device settings dialog and select one of the generic Flash Lite 2 device profiles.
- What are the different color depths in the generic device profiles?
- Flash Lite supports different color depths to match the capabilities of different devices. The emulator will configure itself to use the proper color depth based on the device you have selected. Gradients, alpha transforms, etc in the emulator will now render as they would on the device.
- Which devices currently ship with the Flash Lite Player 2?
- There are currently plans for a number of devices to ship with the Flash Lite Player 2. Until those phones become commercially available, developers can download the Flash Lite Player 2 from the Online Store.
