Hub

Update: Prerelease 2 of Hub was released on March 19, 2009. Download Hub now.

Hub is a client Adobe® AIR® application that connects to Adobe LiveCycle® ES services for the purpose of generating PDFs or assembling different PDFs into packages.  It demonstrates how to connect a client desktop to LiveCycle ES services using Adobe Flex® Remoting. The drag-and-drop client interface allows the user to upload files, watch the progress and retrieve the content back to the desktop with a single gesture. Hub was developed in response to customer requests for a client connector to Adobe LiveCycle ES.

The minimum server-side installation for Hub is the LiveCycle PDF Generator ES. If 3D content is to be converted, then Hub requires LiveCycle PDF Generator 3D ES to be installed. There are several LiveCycle ES archive files (LCA), included with the Hub installer that need to be deployed on the server in order to perform the conversions.

Features

Hub is tightly aligned with LiveCycle ES services installed on the server. Hub provides a simple means of interacting with these services through an easy-to-use desktop client. The following services are supported through Hub:

FAQ

What is Hub?
Hub is a client AIR application that connects to LiveCycle ES services for the purpose of generating PDFs or assembling different PDFs into packages. It demonstrates how to connect a client desktop to LiveCycle ES services using LiveCycle Remoting. The drag-and-drop client interface allows the user to upload files, watch the progress and retrieve the content back to the desktop with a single gesture. Hub was developed in response to customer requests for a client connector to Adobe LiveCycle ES.
What can developers do with Hub?
Developers can use Hub to connect to new LiveCycle ES services from the desktop. New processes created with LiveCycle workbench can be exposed to the desktop through Flex Remoting.
What other Adobe products do I need to use Hub?
Hub requires a LiveCycle ES Update 1 to be installed on a server and configured with LiveCycle PDF Generator ES. In addition the following LiveCycle Archive (LCA) files available for download with the HUB should be deployed on the server:
  • PDFHubAssembler
  • PDFHubPackage
  • PDF3DDemo
  • PDFHubFileTransformation
Are there other examples of processes that I can use Hub to connect to?
Yes. Other LCAs will be made available on this site to extend the capabilities of Hub. For example security services are good candidates to extend the released capabilities on Labs.
Why is Hub being released on Labs?
Hub is being released on Labs because of increased demand for connecting desktop users to server based processes. This AIR application is an example of what can be done with a single LiveCycle ES solution component. There are many other applications of the technology however, and Adobe will use this forum to provide additional examples of those capabilities.
