What is ColdFusion 8?

ColdFusion 8 is the upcoming next major release of ColdFusion from Adobe. It has been known previously as "Scorpio."

When will ColdFusion 8 be released?

The public beta of ColdFusion 8 was released on Adobe Labs on May 30, 2007. We are currently targeting the middle of 2007 for the commercial release.

Can I try the beta version?

Sure! Anyone can download the public beta from Labs at http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/entitlement/index.cfm?e=labs_adobecf8_beta

When will the beta expire?

When you install the public beta of ColdFusion 8, opt to install it as a 30 day trial version. The software will actually stay in trial mode until the end of July, 2007 at which point it will revert to the Developer Edition. Once the commercial version of ColdFusion 8 has shipped, you will need to uninstall the public beta and install the final version. The commercial released version will have an additional 30-day trial period so you can continue to evaluate the product.

A beta version? I'll wait until the bugs are worked out, thanks...

This public beta release is fairly close to what we expect to ship as the final version of the product. There have already been several private alpha and beta releases with many hours of engineering effort (see http://www.dcooper.org/blog/client/index.cfm?mode=entry&entry=B56827FA-4E22-1671-56F24847800AEB00) thus far.

Are there additional downloads?

Yes. The Labs site also provides downloads for several supporting components of the ColdFusion 8 release:

  1. ColdFusion 8 beta ReportBuilder - a great new version of the structured report creation tool. Check out CSS support and HTML as a report output format!
  2. ColdFusion 8 beta plug-ins for Eclipse - a powerful collection of plug-ins for Eclipse (FlexBuilder, CFEclipse, etc.) including our new debugging feature and an AJAX application wizard.
  3. ColdFusion 8 beta tag updates for Dreamweaver CS3 - and tag updates for HomeSite+ coming soon...
  4. ColdFusion 8 beta .NET extension - use this if you want to access .NET from a CF server on a remote server. See the installation instructions for more details.
