Request: Set Expectations for Apollo-1.

Apollo-1 could be "over-challenged" with developers expectations and "standard " user experience.

User Interfaces have to be conserative, not to scare end users away - like most CD auto-run applications used to do.

File System and ByteArrays

If you guys are not already planning this could you please allow Apollo applications to save ByteArray objects as local files (binary files). This is something that most, if not all, third party Flash wrapper applications (such as MDM Zinc) are missing at the moment, and it is something that would be extremely helpful for developers.

Flash Playback Performance

Will Apollo applications play back Flash movies as fast as the native Flash Player (standalone player) or will they be as slow as the browser players?

I doubt that I am the only person who is planning to distribute Flash based games with Apollo and current third party Flash wrapper applications rely on the browser players for their Flash play back, this results in frame rates that are no good for most games.

Network support

HI,

I would like to know what would be the network API support exactly. I know about the Web Services calls (over SOAP/HTTP) but would you provide any TCP, UDP or Peer2Peer support?

[edit]

Database support ?

It is possible to connect to a common database being used strings? example: Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};Dbq=C:\mydatabase.mdb;Uid=Admin;Pwd=;

In case that not, as it will be the connection?
[edit]

Scripting Support ?

Will it not be possible to script Apollo applications using VBScript or AppleScript?

-- This would not be ideal; The point is that Apollo is a cross-platform solution. Using VB or AS would defeat that purpose. 09:04, 3 Apr 2007 (PDT)

Screen Resolution

I am also looking forward to use Appolo for Flash-based games. With this in mind there are two key features Apollo should have: 1. Same playback performance as Standalone Flash Player. 2. Being able to change the screen resolution of the OS via the Appollo app. Let's say you develop a flash game in 640x480 and then publish it as a Flash Player Standalone in fullscreen mode, it would not fill the default screensize and also would be running much slower, because of more pixels to draw every frame. The ability to change the resolution mode could fix this problem.

Error

Hi, I get an error when trying to run some of the sample applications. I have a spanish version of Windows 2000, so my guess is that is a problem related with spanish characters. Here the error string:

This application could not be installed or launched (Error #2035: No se encuentra la dirección URL. URL: file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/LoucimJ/Configuraci%F3n%20local/Temp/fla130.tmp/e32.png).

Update: Same error for me with 8-bit characters in my username, using a UK/Irish settings in English. Also managed to remove by setting user environment variable TEMP to point elsewhere (Control Panel->System->Advanced->Environment Variables). This application could not be installed or launched (Error #2035: URL Not Found. URL: file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/M%EDche%E1l%20%D3%20Foghl%FA/Local%20Settings/Temp/fla2DD.tmp/yourminis.png). --mofoghlu 07:20, 6 Apr 2007 (PDT) I recieve the same message ((error 2035) when I try to intall Air

Next Error

I've got the same error as previously posted, but I managed to solve that by removing the environment variables TEMP and TMP for the current user (they were created when installing Apollo). But next I get another error that the root content cannot be loaded (usually a SWF file). But when I decompress the air file, the root is there. This happens with all the sample applications and I am very upset I cannot see Apollo in action.

Update: and the same happens for me with sample applications or 3rd party applications.

You can do it. For the time being you will have to make use of Apollo SDK (adl and adt). In future we may expect a support for Apollo in flash IDE.

When will we be able to create Apollo apps in FLASH?

So far I have only seen Apollo Apps created with Flex. Is is possible to create Apollo with the new Flash Cs3? We have created alot of content in Flash and really dont want to switch over to Flex.

[edit]

Response

This is possible with the new Adobe AIR update for Flash CS3 Professional.

Request: Adobe AIR Linux support update?

The FAQ for AIR seems to be from when Linux support was just going into Flash, i.e. end of 2006 - start of 2007. With the emergence of mobile products like the Asus EEE pc with Flash Player For Linux preinstalled, Symbian OS for numerous mobile phones (especially since smart phones are becoming faster and more able to run fully fledged Flash). I was hoping a more definite timeline/indication would be given as to where things stand on AIR for Linux and how has anything been done in that regard?

Also I believe quite a few countries in Europe are big on Linux, so clarification on Linux will be good for developers considering a Async Applications built on Flex and AIR.

Thanks, Chong
