Talk:Flex 3:Feature Introductions

From Adobe Labs

I need know ,if html capabilities in flex 3 are better than flex 2........... A question how can I load a html file in the rich text control?

Please help me.....

Regards,Paola

Where can I find code examples for adding, removing, and editing an item in the AdvancedDataGrid? I would also like to know how to refresh the grouping after the data for the groupfield has changed.

I've been fiddling with the new AdvancedDataGrid for Flex 3 and it does wonders. One of its features most beneficial to me is the ability to group rows of data based on some field (column) value. If you don't understand what I'm talking about check out the example at: http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/Flex_3:Feature_Introductions#Advanced_DataGrid The problem is that if you update the field value for any of the records and try to do a refresh so that the record with the new field value gets moved to the correct group, you get an error or the record does not get regrouped. In simple terms, how do you refresh the grouping on an AdvancedDataGrid when some of the grouping field values have changed?

more screenshots

While trying to get my boss excited about Flex 3, I found that you really do not have enough screenshots, particularly in the charting and advanced datagrid areas. The videos are ok (though the seem to drag on a bit), but there's no way to get the information in them to a boss who has a couple of minutes to look at what you want to show them. All the example output shown in the videos should be in the writeups as screenshots. -- jp

OLAPDataGrid video doesn't work

Flex 3 Missing Features

[edit]

Charting

I really really miss an option in Charting that allows me to invert an axis of a CartesianChart (e.g. BarChart). There are many scenarios, in which the importance of displaying values don't focus on "the more - the better". Usually many Flex Charting implementations contain sales/marketing values, where it is a good practice to represent a higher value with more area (BarChart) or in a higher position (LineChart). But there are also many many cases where it is better to represent lower values with more area or a higher position. Has a different psychological effect.

Examples where low values are better (more valuable):

 - Time it takes to complete a series of tasks
 - Price of a product over time (costomer view :-)
 - Amount of money spent over time (e.g. on parkting tickets)
 - Mistakes in a test over a series of tests (e.g. french spelling tests)
 - Position/Rank over time (e.g. Billboard Top 100): No. 1 ist the best
 - Traffic Costs over time
 - ...

Can Adobe PLEASE implement this in MXML! (Does anyone know a solution until then)
