Project Stylish Strokes

Stylize your text based on strokes

Modern fonts are stored as outlines, but many stylization techniques need to be based on the strokes that make up the characters. Project Stylish Strokes automatically recovers these strokes from the outlines.

Unlike other approaches that are based on matching templates to the characters, Project Stylish Strokes uses only geometric analysis. Because of this, it works on fonts with unusual character structures and on fonts for different languages.

Once the characters have been separated into strokes, we can apply a wide variety of stroke-based stylizations. These include applying brushes to the strokes, turning the type into graffiti, and replacing strokes with custom artwork. This replacement artwork can even be animated, creating animated type stylizations.

Project Stylish Strokes is a collaboration with researchers at Goldsmiths, University of London.
